The opening of Sammy’s Island is another highlight in the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s year which also includes him being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, April 30, and the highly-anticipated launch of his THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS” 2024 tour. Hagar will be joined by rock heavyweights and longtime bandmates Michael Anthony (bass, backing vocals), Jason Bonham (drums) and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani. Collectively, they have played together in nearly every phase of Hagar’s career including Van Halen, Chickenfoot and The Circle so fans can expect a setlist that includes rock anthems such as “Finish What Ya Started,” “5150,” “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy,” “Best of Both Worlds,” “Poundcake,” “Sexy Little Thing,” “One Way To Rock,” “Right Now,” “Good Enough,” “Eagles Fly” and more.

Cabo-rita Cocktail with Santo Blanco Tequila at Sammy’s Island

⦁ 1 ounce Cabo Wabo tequila (blanco is my preference, but reposado works great, too)
⦁ 1⁄2 ounce Damiana liqueur (sub more orange liqueur if you can’t find this, but it won’t quite be the same)
⦁ 1⁄2 ounce orange liqueur (e.g. triple sec, Cointreau, etc)
⦁ 1⁄2 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
⦁ splash blue Curaçao
⦁ ice
⦁ lime peel (garnish)

Method
1. Pour tequila, Damiana, orange liqueur, and lime juice in a shaker and fill with plenty of ice.

2. Shake until ice cold. (If using a stainless cocktail shaker, you should start to see frost on the exterior. Yeah, that cold.)
3. Pour into a chilled, salt rimmed Martini or Margarita glass. Those handblown ones from Mexico are perfect.
4. Drop lime peel into glass.
5. Pour a splash of blue Curaçao onto the drink (I suggest 1/2 – 1 teaspoon) and serve.

A ZESTY RIFF ON THEALL-TIME CLASSIC

The quintessential tequila concoction gets a snap of ginger for just the right balance of sassy and sweet. Meet your new go-to cocktail.

  • 1 1/2 oz Santo Tequila Reposado
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz ginger syrup

For the ginger syrup:

  • 2/3 cup freshly peeled and sliced ginger
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup water

To make the margarita:
Pour the ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake well and pour all contents into a glass.

To make the ginger syrup:
Combine the ingredients in a small saucepan and cook, stirring occasionally, on medium-low heat until simmering. Allow to cook for an additional 25 minutes on low heat. Strain the ginger out of the syrup and chill in a heat-proof container until cold.

NOTES
The syrup recipe will produce enough to make several margaritas. Only fresh ginger will work for this recipe.
We do not recommend dried, frozen, or preserved ginger.

The Backdrop:

Designed by New York-based firm Parts and Labor Design, Orla’s inviting, earthy ambiance is brought to life through intricate tile mosaics, a mix of white marble and dark wooden tables accented by stylish earth-tone chairs, and a spectacular tile floor sure to become a signature talking point of the space.

Upon entry, guests are greeted by a large statement bar featuring cracked tile and waxed three-dimensional plaster that weaves its way through the main dining space. The dining room, washed in neutrals of cream and white, is accented by hues of pink, blue, gold and orange—dynamic shades inspired by the myriad of colored spices found in markets common to coastal Mediterranean towns. Guest may dine under one of two large olive trees rising from the center of the dining room toward dramatic vaulted ceilings, while three massive woven chandeliers bring the ceiling down to human scale, creating a moody and intimate atmosphere.

Additionally, Orla boasts a semi-private dining room called The Odyssey, which can seat up to 22 guests and be configured several ways to accommodate a variety of groups or parties.

Orla, located on Mandalay Bay’s restaurant row, is open daily. Dinner is served 4:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.; cocktails and light bites are served at the bar until 11 p.m.  Reservations can be made by visiting Mandalay Bay online or at 702.632.9400.

New Wahlburgers Opens at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place

Mark Wahlberg and Paul Wahlberg Recently Hosted a Wahlburgers Grand Opening Party at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place

Brothers presented with Key to the Las Vegas Strip for their contributions to the vitality of the Las Vegas Strip

Mark Wahlberg, who recently set down roots in Las Vegas with his family, and his brother, Paul Wahlberg, who is the chef behind Wahlburgers’ award-winning menu, were presented with the Key to the Las Vegas Strip. The brothers were honored at the grand opening of their newest Wahlburgers at Mandalay Bay within The Shoppes at Mandalay Place.

Hundreds of fans gathered outside of the new Wahlburgers, the second in Las Vegas, joining their burger restaurant in the Grand Bazaar Shops at Horseshoe, which opened in 2016.

While doing interviews on the red carpet, Mark joked with Paul that he should be next to move to Las Vegas, pointing out the desirability of the city’s schools, churches and homes. The brothers then went inside, where Mark posed in countless selfies before stepping behind the bar to pour shots of his Flecha Azul Tequila. He stopped and took photos with all the Wahlburgers’ employees, even going back to the kitchen where he spent more than 30 minutes getting to know the cooks.

The brothers were welcomed by Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, whose district includes the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, who presented the brothers with the key, which also honored their brother and other Wahlburgers partner, Donnie Wahlberg. The key honors the expansion of the franchise and the brothers’ contributions to the vitality of the Las Vegas Strip. Other notables whose contributions have been honored with a Key to the Las Vegas Strip include Katy Perry, Tiësto and Jimmy Kimmel.

Fellow Bostonian and globally renowned chef, Todd English, and DJ and podcast superstar, Whoo Kid, were among the more than 150 VIP guests who came out to celebrate the grand opening.

At 5,000 square feet, the new Wahlburgers has a capacity of 150 guests, including an oversized bar ideal for grabbing a beer, adult shake or “Wahlcoction,” and watching the game. HDTVs are located throughout the restaurant, so you’ll never miss a minute of the game whether you’re seated in the dining room or at the bar.

Founded in Hingham, Massachusetts in 2011, Wahlburgers now has more than 90 locations across the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

More information about Wahlburgers can be found on the website at https://wahlburgers.com/, as well as on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/wahlburgers/, and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/wahlburgers/.
