Black Lagoon Pop-Up: Official October Dates and Haunting New Menu
Black Lagoon, the award-winning Halloween pop-up celebration from industry veterans Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage, has revealed its full cocktail lineup and official spirit partners for the 2025 season. Now in its fifth year, the darkly imaginative bar takeover expands to 38 cities across North America this October, offering fans more sinister sips and haunted thrills than ever before.

Conceived in 2019 at The Dungeon, a cult-favorite dive bar in New Orleans, founders Hayes and Ramage knew they were onto something wickedly unique and deliciously dark. Black Lagoon officially launched its first bar pop-up in 2021. Five years later, it has now cast its veil of darkness over major cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, expanding to 38 locations for the 2025 season.

“We wanted this year’s cocktails to push the boundaries of spooky creativity while also being approachable, fun and above all, delicious,” says co-founder Erin Hayes. “It’s important to us that every drink feels like an experience, whether you’re sipping tequila, rum, or even a zero-proof cocktail.”

This year’s cocktail menu features spine-chilling originals including:
- Griselda’s Revenge: Fords Gin, Lustau Vermut Blanco, Giffard Liqueur Mangue, tarragon, lemon, Bitter Queens Thai Spice, Soda
- Nocturna Colada: Kraken Black, Kraken Gold, Mr Black Liqueur, passionfruit, coconut, pineapple, Bitter Queens Coffee Cardamom Bitters
- Corpse Flower: Lalo Tequila Blanco, ube, Giffard Banane, lime, Lustau Amontillado Sherry
- Death’s Door (non-alcoholic): Spirit-free alternative, Giffard Pineapple, miso falernum, lime, soda
Black Lagoon’s 2025 cocktails are powered by Lalo Tequila, Fords Gin, Kraken Rum (Gold & Black), Mr Black Cold Brew Liqueur, Giffard Liqueurs, Lustau Sherry/Vermouth, and Bitter Queens, with Canadian partners including Absolut Vodka, and Lot 40 Rye.

“Partnering with some of the most exciting spirit brands out there makes the magic possible,” adds co-founder Kelsey Ramage. “Each sponsor brings a unique character that fits right into the Black Lagoon universe and flavors we bring to life each year.”

Picazzo’s Fundraising for BloomKidz During Autism Awareness Month in April
When Picazzo’s Healthy Italian Kitchen Managing Partner Chris Disney launched the restaurant’s fundraising campaign for autism research in 2021, he did not indicate that the following year his daughter Collyns would be diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic neurological disorder on the Autism spectrum. Through family connections, the Disneys were connected with BloomKidz Wellness & Recreation, the nonprofit clinic where four-year-old Collyns has been receiving comprehensive occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, and physical therapy to help stave off the effects of Rett Syndrome (follow @disneysinthedesert for regular updates from Colly’s mom Angela.) This condition leads to severe impairments affecting nearly every aspect of life: speaking, walking, eating, and breathing.

For the entire month of April, Picazzo’s will donate $1 for every dessert sold to BloomKidz.

Devour Culinary Classic: 2024 Winners
Local First Arizona is proud to announce the winners of the 15th annual Devour Culinary Classic.

The event showcasing Arizona’s top chefs was hosted Feb. 24-25 at Desert Botanical Garden in partnership with the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance.

A panel of top food critics and journalists from around the country tasted dishes served by over 50 participating restaurants and purveyors, scoring on taste, presentation, degree of difficulty and creativity.
Dishes that qualified for awards were then designated Best in Show, Double Gold Medal, Gold Medal, Silver Medal, Bronze Medal and Heritage Food Medal.

The second year of the Heritage Food Medal honors the best dish with ingredients that are indigenous, heirloom, low-water, desert-adapted or locally sourced (within a 100-mile radius of the restaurant) and thus more sustainable for Arizona. Climate-smart foods are essential for farmers, chefs and diners to support and expand for the future of our state.

In addition, Devour volunteers helped attendees divert a record 3 tons of waste from the landfill to recycling or composting, a 70% diversion rate.
