Music fans who enjoy old-fashioned rock and roll should run to secure a ticket for the current production at Drury Lane Theatre.
The exuberant show “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story” is gracing the stage at Oakbrook’s Drury Lane Theatre through Oct. 18. The production, directed by Matthew D. Carney, tells the story of ’50s musician Buddy Holly and his rise to fame. It showcases his career, his home life and continues to that tragic day of his death in a plane crash with The Big Bopper and Richie Valens.
If you attend the show simply to hear great music, you’ll get it in this production. Tunes such as “That’ll be the Day,” “Peggy Sue,” “Everyday,” “La Bamba,” “Chantilly Lace,” “Maybe Baby” and more are in the spotlight.
Starring as Holly is the energetic Joey Chelius. Other cast members are Marta Bady, Alek Boggio, Grant Alexander Brown, Elliot Coe Esquivel, Eric Andrew Lewis, Russell Mernagh, Samantha Sayah, Matthew Cruz, Joryhebel Ginorio, Darryl D’Angelo Jones, Jake Mickel, Jack Morsovillo, and Caitlin Dobbins.

It’s difficult not to leave the theater singing after this show.
