WRITING
Stories That Go the Distance
From weekly columns to feature articles, always exploring the quirky, the little known, and the hidden gems worth discovering.
Travel Features
Destinations near and far, on and off the beaten path
From the rolling hills of Brown County, Indiana to the cobblestone streets of European capitals, my travel writing takes readers into the heart of each destination. I specialize in uncovering the overlooked — the dirt roads, the backwater towns, the local markets and farmstands that most guidebooks miss. My features have appeared in Lonely Planet, USA Today’s Best of series, Long Weekends Magazine, and Chicago Life Magazine.
Food & Dining
From farm stands to fine dining
My weekly food column for the Herald Palladium covers the full spectrum of dining, from Amish country bakeries to award-winning restaurants. I review restaurants, interview chefs and cookbook authors, and explore the food traditions that define a region. My food writing has taken me from Rick Bayless’s kitchen to the James Beard Awards at the Chicago Lyric Opera House.
Columns & Publications
Regular features for newspapers and magazines
I write a weekly book column and bi-weekly travel column for the Northwest Indiana Times, the second largest paper in the state and the third largest in the Chicagoland area. My weekly food column runs in the Herald Palladium, the largest paper in Southwest Michigan. I also contribute regularly to Chicago Life Magazine, MexConnect, Great Lakes Boating, Edible Michiana, and Meer. My articles have appeared in Indianapolis Monthly, Kentucky Living, Ohio Magazine, and Edible Indy.
Pitch an Idea
Always open for assignments
Whether you need a travel feature, restaurant review, chef profile, book review, or a deep dive into regional history and culture, I’m available for freelance assignments. I bring decades of experience, a sharp eye for detail, and the kind of curiosity that turns a routine assignment into a compelling story. Ask me to pitch story ideas or bring your own — I’m ready to write.
