“Brokeback Mountain” tells the story of cowboys Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, who fall in love in Wyoming during the 1960s. Their forbidden love is hidden from others, as they marry women and lead painfully double lives through the years. The play showcases the heartbreak of the situation and also speaks about bigotry, societal pressures, and denial issues.
Starring in the play are Harrison Ball and Jack Cameron Kay, who offer up excellent performances as the leading characters. Also featured in the show are Thomas Cox, Cordelia Dewdney, Kat Eggleston, and Alina Taber.
The attractive set, designed by Tom Pye, makes one feel as though you’re out in the Western wilderness. The show also features original songs by Dan Gillespie Sells.
The play, which features music performed by a live band on stage, is directed by Jonathan Butterell. “Brokeback Mountain” was adapted by Ashley Robinson and is based on the novella by Annie Proulx. The movie “Brokeback Mountain,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, debuted in 2005.
