By Guest Blogger Eloise Marie Valadez

The stage of Chicago’s Nederlander Theatre is currently filled with much excitement.

“Water for Elephants” is the show now thrilling audiences at The James M. Nederlander Theatre. The musical continues to July 5.

Based on the novel by Sara Gruen, “Water for Elephants” tells the story of veterinary student Jacob Jankowski, whose parents die in a tragic accident during the Great Depression. After he is orphaned, Jacob goes in search of a new life. He hops a circus train and begins his new life with the circus folk where he falls in love with the ringmaster’s wife, becomes the circus’ veterinarian and also develops a bond with the elephant Rosie.

The production, which showcases original direction by Jessica Stone, features a pleasing score, excellent vocals and beautiful circus aerial performances.

“Water for Elephants” stars Zachary Keller as Jacob and Helen Krushinski as Marlena. Also featured in the show are Robert Tully, Connor Sullivan, Javier Garcia, Ruby Gibbs, Chris Marth and Tyler West.

Among standout musical numbers in the show are “Easy,” “Silver Stars,” “Zostan,” “What Do You Do?” and “The Road Don’t Make You Young.” Audience members will also enjoy seeing the interesting puppetry skills and illusions involved in bringing the elephant, horse and other creatures to life.

FYI: “Water for Elephants” continues through July 5 at The James M. Nederlander Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., Chicago. Tickets range from $39 to $130. For more information, visit broadwayinchicago.com
