Parrot Heads should don their best colorful attire and head to The North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie.
It’s there where the summer fun still lingers during “Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville” presented by Music Theater Works. The musical continues to Nov. 1.
“Escape to Margaritaville,” a romantic comedy, tells the story of island singer Tully and Rachel, a tourist who is focused on her career. The two meet and, although they don’t gel at first, they eventually become smitten with one another. As they play their cat and mouse game throughout the show, Rachel’s best friend Tammy is also working out problems of her own with fiance Chadd. The musical features many comical situations and various mishaps which keep audience members laughing.
Jimmy Buffett’s classic tunes shine in the spotlight throughout the show. Songs such as “Fins,” “Five O’Clock Somewhere,” “Son of a Son of A Sailor,” “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Margaritaville” receive excellent treatment by the cast. Hearing the joyous Buffett tunes easily makes one want to sing along.

Cast members in the production include Brian Acker, Kate McQuillan, Khaki Pixley, Chase Grabowski, Tamara Batiest, Brian James, Matt Frye, Lili Galluzzo, MacKenzie Furlett, Andrew Faggion, Mikala Curless, Ivan James, Jacob Merschel, Kelcy Taylor, Kenny Miller and Juliet Lopez-Gutierrez.
“Escape to Margaritaville” features a book by Greg Garcia and Mike O’Malley. The Music Theater Works production is the first time the show is being presented in the Chicago area since it opened in Chicago in 2017 prior to a Broadway run.
