Monty Python’s Spamalot: Still Funny After All These Years

By Guest Blogger Eloise Marie Valadez

If you’re a Monty Python fan or simply a fan of witty humor, get thee to the CIBC Theatre in Chicago for some laughs.

The Tony-Award-winning production continues to shine onstage at CIBC Theatre through May 31.

“Spamalot,” with book and lyrics by Eric Idle, is a musical parody of the popular film “Monty Python and The Holy Grail” which has King Arthur and his knights searching for the Holy Grail.

The production, with music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, made its world premiere in Chicago in 2004. The current touring show proves an excellent production with strong comedic acting and dynamic vocals.

“Spamalot” drew audiences when it first debuted and the witty writing in the work is still making audiences roar. Theatergoers, as it was in a recent production, easily quote some of the famous lines along with the actors during the show.

Starring in the musical are Major Attaway, Sean Bell, Chris Collins-Pisano, Ellis C. Dawson III, Leo Roberts, Amanda Robles, Blake Segal, Steven Telsey and others.

Highlighted in the score are catchy musical numbers such as “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” “I Am Not Dead Yet, “”The Song That Goes Like This,” “You Won’t Succeed on Broadway,” and “Find Your Grail.”

Fans won’t want to miss this current production.
